Pokemon Go Appraisal Guide

Pokemon Go Appraisal Guide – Meanings And Charts For Mystic, Valor & Instinct

Welcome to our Pokemon Go appraisal guide! If you want to find out information on how Gyms work first, head over to our gyms guide. If you want to find out information IV’s and CP, head over to our evolutions guide. This guide covers the appraisal feature in Pokemon Go, from the difference in team appraisal meanings, to how to calculate your Pokemon’s strength from appraisals and what relevance Pokemon size has.

Once you reach the lofty heights of Level 5 and head for a local gym you’ll be greeted by a message asking you to select a team to represent in Pokemon Go; Mystic, Valor or Instinct. The three teams are represented by three colours; red, blue and yellow. Each team is modelled on the legendary birds from generation 1; Moltres (red), Articuno (blue) and Zapdos (yellow). Each team in the game is represented by a team leader.

Pokemon Go Team LeadersThe leaders of the teams are Spark (Instinct), Blanche (Mystic) and Candela (Valor).

Each team leader (Spark, Blanche and Candela) have their own unique way of appraising (reviewing) your Pokemon, as seen below. All Pokemon are unique; you could have two Charmander’s with exactly the same CP but they could still differ due to their IV’s. IV’s are individual values and determine how strong your Pokemon truly is. The formula is comprised of three different statistics; attack, defense and HP; just like in the Pokemon video games. Each stat can be as low as 0 and as high as 15, representing a total stat value of 45. When looking to evolve and power up certain Pokemon, you want to aim to do this for Pokemon with high IV ratings.

You’re looking out for your team leader giving your Pokemon a glowing report in their initial review; ‘Overall, your Pokémon is a wonder! What a breathtaking Pokémon!‘ for Mystic, ‘Overall, your Pokémon simply amazes me. It can accomplish anything!’ for Valor and ‘Overall, your Pokémon looks like it can really battle with the best of them!‘ for Instinct. If you get this report, your attention should be grabbed as you have a good IV Pokemon on your hands, and possibly a great one.

So how is a Pokemon’s size relevant? The short answer is that it isn’t. It’s purely a height/weight measurement and an additional feature for Pokemon Go. A couple of your trainer badges require you to catch big Magikarp and small Rattata but as far as gameplay goes, size doesn’t having any impact on it. It’s possible that it’ll be implemented into battles one day, but for now it’s to be treated as pretty much a fun fact for your Pokemon.
